For everyone interested in the world of plants, the course promotes the transmission of knowledge about the use of medicinal plants, namely their beneficial effects, toxicological risk and opportunities for valorization, in a context that enhances innovation and entrepreneurship.
With a high laboratory component, the course is aimed at 2nd/3rd cycle students, professionals in the areas of pharmacy, chemistry, biology and related areas, as well as anyone who shows an interest in this area.
The course aims to promote the transmission of knowledge about the use of medicinal plants, their beneficial effects, toxicological risk and opportunities for valorization in an increasingly demanding market, boosting innovation and entrepreneurship.
Specifically, it aims to equip trainees with the knowledge and skills necessary to:
- Carry out standardized tests to control the identity and quality of medicinal plants and herbal products;
- Prepare plant extracts and characterize their chemical profile, targeting specific classes of bioactive compounds;
- Carry out chemical, enzymatic and cellular tests with the aim of evaluating the bioactivity of extracts obtained from medicinal plants, necessary to support their use in health;
- Design formulations aiming at the stability of bioactive compounds and their valorization in the market.
